The intent of the continuing education requirement is to advance the level of knowledge of the electrical profession's licensees. The number of continuing education hours that are necessary to confirm continued competency is determined by jurisdiction. Some states have a statewide policy while others determine requirements by county, city or other regional boundary. Most jurisdictions require continuing education in order to renew licenses – a helpful grid of local jurisdictions, contacts and requirements is provided, but you should check with your local jurisdiction for the most up to date information on the current requirements for renewal of your specific license(s). The hours and approved courses and/or instructors vary greatly between jurisdictions and are subject to change. One CEU (continuing education unit) is equivalent to 10 professional hours of instruction.
